The Riverview High School FFA Dairy Judging Team succeeded at the South Florida Fair on Jan. 26, and advanced to the Florida State Fair. On Feb. 17, the FFA Dairy Judging Team competed in the state finals, taking place at the State Fair Grounds during the state fair. In total there were 20-25 school teams competing from the entire state. The procedure for the finals consisted of contestants being evaluated by judges one-on-one. RVHS Media Specialist Pamela Smith is creating a group on Edsby that will be for the Media Center. In this group, events and pictures for the Media Center will be posted so that students and staff can stay connected with what is going on. This will help teachers inform their students of upcoming events. Smith expects this group to bring more participation in library programs.
This upcoming Saturday, Riverview will be holding its first-ever Sadie Hawkins Dance, sponsored by the National Honors Society (NHS) in association with the Kidz1stFund. This is essentially a dance-less formal dance in which the girls ask the guys to dance, and commonly has a country theme. The RVHS Drama Department will be producing A Chorus Line, which is an extracurricular, so it will be comprised of students not necessarily in drama. It takes place on Feb. 15-17 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets will be $5 for students and $8 for adults.
Five Riverview High School students; Sarah Ferguson , Megan Geers, Emma Atherton, Aerion Watford and Adelaide Landsman were selected as winners in the National Scholastic Art and Writing competition. All English classes had the opportunity to compete regionally. Contest entries were in by December 15, and regional winners were announced at the end of January. The Choral Department will be having it’s Solo and Ensemble Feb. 9 and 10 at Blake High School at 7p.m. There will be four ensembles, two pianists, sixteen soloists, and a student conductor. This is a music professional assessment for students to go in front of a judge to get feedback on their vocal quality. They will be rated superior, excellent, good, fair, or poor. The results will be given the day of the performance.
The Riverview High School Drama Department will be performing Complete Works of Shakespeare Abridged version, which is usually done by just three people but will be done by 40. The Choral Department will be selling Vocal Valentines starting tomorrow Feb. 1-13 in room 803 between classes and during all lunches. They include a card, song, and carnation. Each will cost $5 and for special request songs there will be an additional $3 charge. Vocal Valentines will be delivered during the school day on Feb. 14.
