On Wednesday, the Lady Sharks flag football team competed against Bloomingdale in the district finals. The Sharks won 20-12. After the game, Head Coach Willie Sargable was awarded the Coach of the Year. This is also Riverview’s first flag football district title since 2007. The Key Club members has had many previous events in the last few weeks. They attended the Florida District Education and Leadership Conference. (DCON) During the conference they won multiple awards. One of the main awards was the Governor’s Citation and this award was achieved by 15 Club members averaging 30 hours on the Governors project. The Key Club team also came in third place in the Platinum Division in the conference for averaging 40 hours per member.

Last week Riverview’s varsity flag football team got the opportunity to play Robinson. both teams came into this game undefeated. However, Riverview was ranked first in state and Robinson was ranked second. Going into this game the Sharks had five shutouts in a row as well as 22 consecutive quarters without surrendering a touchdown. The Riverview Varsity Flag Football team is currently 3-0 as they beat Bloomingdale 7-6 and shut out both Newsome and Strawberry Crest with scores of 34-0 and 41-0 respectively. This revenged a loss to the Bulls last season in the district finals. Before spring break, our Sharks went to Osceola to compete in the wrestling Regionals. The team finished third out of the 37 teams participating, collecting 103 points. Riverview lost to Manatee and the host Osceola squad. In the meet, RVHS had Josh Guerra placing second in his weight class (113).
