On Jan. 23, the Riverview High School agriculture program won first place at the County Horticulture/ Floriculture and Nursery Operations Contest. Four students from each school were in attendance. The contest is countywide and tests students’ knowledge and their ability to identify the plants and weeds.

Miranda Holder, Nadia Rhoten, Rucca Rhoten, and Alex King represented Riverview at this competition. Alex King got fifth place in the individuals and Rucca Rhoten got the second-highest, also in individuals. Karen Hamilton, the agriculture teacher at Riverview says that “These particular students were involved in the contest in middle school and wanted to continue competing.”

This is the first time in 20 years that Durant High School hasn’t won this competition. The Riverview winners will be going to states this March to display their abilities to create corsages and centerpieces for tables.
