Swim Regionals Recap

On November 8, the Riverview Swim Team went to regionals at the Long Center in Clearwater. Two relays, as well as two individual events managed to qualify at districts the previous week. This was the highest number of regional qualifiers in school history for swimming. For comparison, last year only one girls relay managed to qualify for regionals. RVHS head boys Swimming Coach Brian Adams was pleased to say that, “we’re getting better as a swim program and getting more swimmers moving on.”

The two relays to qualify were the 200m freestyles for both the boys’ and girls’ teams. Qualifying for the boys’ relay were Gomez, Vallejo, William Crone, and Andrew Crone, with Gomez, Vallejo and William Crone setting Personal Records (PR’s) for their 50m stretch of the race. On the girls’ relay were Moore, Crone, Peoples, and Ervin with Moore and Peoples also setting new PR’s. Andrew Crone qualified individually for the 50m freestyle and 100m Breaststroke races and managed to set a new school record for the 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1:03.35.

The boys team managed to finish the season with a 6-2 record, and girls 4-4. When asked, RVHS head girls swimming Coach Alexandra Munzing said she was happy with how the season went and proud of the dedication of the team to get up early in the morning for practice each day. She hopes next year will be even better, with most of those who qualified for regionals returning including three freshmen.
