Football Game Against Lennard
The boys’ varsity football team at Riverview High won the last game of the regular season against the Lennard Longhorns, finishing 28 – 21.
Aside from being “a great team win,” head coach William Mosel named off various players who had exceptionally good games including Tyrique Thorton, Devin White, and Kadeem Robinson.
Not described as an easy feat, the Sharks experienced a “tight ball game” yet played “really good,” with defense forcing six fumbles and an interception. Mosel says, “They were what we were expecting them to be,” which is a playoff team in which the Sharks were able to execute against.
As for the post-season, this will be the first time in 16 years RVHS makes it to the playoffs.
While Mosel is happy with the regular season overall, he would like to focus on cutting down the “little mistakes.” As for the regular season, in which the Sharks finished 8 – 2, Mosel hopes to see more victories as playoffs approach.
Of the eight teams in Region 2 of 8A RVHS is seeded sixth and will be heading against Osceola High, who is seeded third, at their home turf. Osceola finished their regular season 8 – 1 and is has 4 – 1 record at home and a 4 – 0 record away, as well as a seven-game win streak and a winning percentage of .889.
These first rounds of single-elimination, regional games will determine what teams then advance even closer to state finals.
Riverview Sarasota is seeded first and will be playing Lake Nona, seeded eighth. Newsome, seeded fifth is competing against Steinbrenner, seeded fourth. Both Sarasota and Newsome having been tough competitors for the Sharks, Mosel is interested to see if and how the Sharks will match up against either of the two.
Riverview’s first playoff game will take place on Friday night at 7:30 in Kissimmee.
