Volleyball Wins!

This past Thursday at Riverview the girls’ volleyball team faced Plant City. Head Coach Jessica Thornton led her team to victory in a very close match. In Game One, Sarah Hapu led the team with one point with an amazing spike. After that, Sydrah Glasgo scoring with the assistance of Hannah Sallet. The girls kept it rolling with Sallet and Mapu serving to score. Plant City committed a net violation to close the opening set. The final score was 25-16 Riverview.

In Game Two, the Shark girls led 1-0 as Ariya Harris earned the score plus Sallet blocking the Raiders constantly. Mia Cervetti scored with an assist from Emily Trask, but Plant City started to gain. Riverview tied it up early on with Daylin Gonzalez scoring two times in a row, but the Raiders captured the second set 25-19.

Game Three began close with Plant City and Riverview constantly going back and forth. Mapu scored with the assistance of Emily Trask. A net violation evened the score at 11-11. Hannah Bowers and Harris make important plays, saving the ball to score. A penalty occured and Plant City tied up the score again. Then Sydrah Glasgo made a save and netted the Sharks a score, which led to the game’s final score 28-26 Sharks.

The Riverview girls pulled away in Game Four, with a Sallet block and score. Glasgo added a kill, tying it up 10-10. The Sharks jumped out to a 20-16 lead with Bowers scoring. The final score for Game Four was 25-19 Riverview, giving the Sharks the match win 3-1.

Thornton said, “This was a great way to start the season. I’m proud of the girls battling their way through the game. We’ve been practicing for four weeks. We had a preseason that we learned a lot from; the lessons we learned were put to practice here tonight.
