Homecoming Week
The Riverview High School student government association (SGA) plans multiple events for the school throughout the year. Within those events are the various activities accompanying the annual Homecoming.
The Homecoming game, will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 28. During the game’s halftime, RVHS Principal Danielle Shotwell will crown the King and Queen. The results from the school-wide votes will present the King and Queen in the football field.
The Homecoming dance will be held on Sept. 29, from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Regent. Tickets are available for sale until Sept. 26. If a student wishes to bring someone from a different high school, they must fill out a guest application; the deadline is Sept. 21. The theme for Homecoming this year was settled on Cirque de Solei at The View.
“SGA heard from kids what they would be interested in, ideas were passed around, and then we voted on it” said Laura Hike, SGA’s advisor.
Though SGA takes the lead in planning for Homecoming, other clubs around campus take areas to decorate. Whether making signs, decorating doors or hallways, many organizations take a hand in bringing the theme to life.
The week leading towards Homecoming is not any less eventful. Spirit Week is when all students are encouraged to participate in dressing up according to the themes of the days, consisting of:
Monday: “‘Merica Monday”
Tuesday: “Toga Tuesday” for the seniors, and “Tourist Tuesday” for the underclassmen.
Wednesday: “Aliens vs. Cowboys”
Thursday: “Superheroes vs. Villains”
Friday: Spirit day, all students wear their class colors.
