The Riverview High School track team, led by girls head coach Mary Rivera, had a very successful state championship meet on May 3-4 at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.

Rivera said she was “proud to report that we have a state champion (Alyssa Hendrix) in not one, but two events.” and added “What a year for Alyssa! We are so proud of her hard work and determination.”

On Friday night after three hours of delay from the lightning, Hendrix ran the 3,200-meter and finished this race right in front of her opponent Mary Ellen Eudaly by .59 seconds with the final time of 10:33. On Saturday night, Hendrix took home another win in the 1,600-meter making this her second state gold medal of the 2019 track season.

The two-time state champion won the state championship for cross-country as well, making this another success in her junior year sports career. This season ended on a good note as Rivera mentioned that she “can’t wait to see what she does next year!”
