Cross Country
The cross country teams at Riverview have gotten off to a great start. In the first meet of the season (the East Hillsborough Meet) both the girls and boys teams placed second.
Alyssa Hendrix won the meet at 18:28 for the girls. “This was a great way to start the season,” said Head Cross Country Coach Mary Rivera.
The team practices everyday no matter what happens. If it is lightning, it runs under the coverings or the athletes do a CrossFit workout. The goal this team has set is to get both teams to Regionals and have a couple of individuals compete at the State Meet.
One major strength this team has that they have a large team of 53 athletes, although half of them are without experience. The biggest need of the team right now is to just keep improving each meets until districts, according to Rivera.
Up next for the teams is the FL Runners Invitational this Saturday. Two weeks later, the squads will be participating in the Pre-State meet. Districts will take place Oct. 25.
