Cross Country County Championships
There is a new name on the first place awards for Female Cross Country Runners. That name is a Riverview High School sophomore: Alyssa Hendrix. Last weekend at the Hillsborough County Championships, Hendrix finished on top. She triumphed over two-time State Cross Country Champion, Bailey Hertenstein.
Finishing with a time of 17:51, Hendrix completed the race with a time more than 30 seconds faster than Hertenstein, the following competitor. Hendrix said she had feelings of excitement and gratefulness for her placing. Hendrix has trained all season for this result.
"I now know my hard work has paid off," Hendrix said. Following her win, Hendrix looks forward to the rest of the season; specifically, the state championships.
Other RVHS girls that placed include Julia Rohm, in 15th place with a time of 20:03 and Adrianna Hagel in 18th at 20:33.
Two freshman varsity runners, Cambree Sargable, and Emily Mason, both ran times below 26 minutes.
The following weekend, the RVHS Cross Country Girls’ and Boys’ varsity teams placed first overall at Holloway Park in Lakeland.
There were three RVHS girls in the top five for the meet; with Hendrix placing first once again. The RVHS team placed third in the meet, and the RVHS Girls’ JV team was also successful, placing second overall in the meet.
Next week, at the District meet, the team will be running at Holloway Park and should know what to anticipate because they ran there last week and familiarized themselves with the course.
According to RVHS Head Cross Country Coach, Mary Lichtenberger, "Our girls are improving each week."
